Hi all,

Got the new taps sorted on the sink after some issues with the originals and dripping, a month later, the hand basin is coming away from the wall. It's a pedestal one with 2 bolts holding it into the wall. The bolt on the right-hand side turns freely and slides in and out, and now the one on the left is going the same way.

We're redoing the bathroom but it won't be for at least 2-3 months so I need a temp/semi-perm fix to stop this bloody thing coming off the wall altogether.

Any ideas? New bolts I can look at but access isn't the easiest.

I've thought maybe some large matches, heads cut off, slid in alongside the bolt may help tighten it up, similar technique as used with raw plugs if the hole is too big.

I guess wont be able to use bigger screw as wont fit holes in basin, be hard to drill hole deeper aswell to use longer screw with basin in the way, so only option is to try and pack the holes out so the screw bites like you said

Ps. Maybe some type of expanding bolt that fits through the basin holes and expands in the hole? or gently bore the hole in basin bigger and use a bigger screw/ bolt

Would be easier if you could remove the basin fix hole and refit but thats more work

Mastic or no more nails to the wall if desperate for a few months?

What's the wall made of? Brick, block, studwork and plaster or dot-n-dab plasterboard?

For blockwork our plumber recommend threaded bolts and used a resin compound which was applied with a couple of syringes into the wall and set hard. Once done the basin was attached to the bolts.

As above - Grip fill or silicon glue - pull basin away from wall and squirt a load down back.- Then push basin back as far as you can and lean against it for 10 min
