Well at the grand old age of 25, and whilst on the hunt for my new car I have finally sucumed to................

A Volvo S60 2.0T (in black). I was going to get an Audi A4 but the deal fell through due to issues with the car. I pick it up tomorrow lunchtime so will post some pictures at some point.

The question is, what is the general consensus, "Is this a pipe and slippers car?"

The picture is off the website gallary but is the same model and colour. I even get the cool headlamp wipers.

No its a police car:)

Good point, forgot about that. I only went for the base spec 2.0T 180bhp/240NM torque engine due to needing ok ish fuel economy (and not wanting a diesel).

Have to say for the price the performance is blumming good for the size of car. I tried a few other saloons including a New Honda Accord 2.4 Executive and although it had loads of toys and a nice finish + good performance, the ride was way to harsh for what i wanted.

would love a R version of the S60.....I like them..a classic Q car

cant imagine they handle all that well but in a stright line through the gears it would be awesome

they always have supremely comfortable seats as well

Nice my friend. Some things to look out for. There was a WORLD WIDE RECALL  of 500,000 S60s (and a few other models) built 1999 - 2001 because the radiator fan could overheat and start an engine compartment fire.

Other thing to look out for, check the air box lid is correctly in tact and the pipe behind is not bent. Volve dont sell the lids on their own and the whole box is £140 odd quid! If the pipe behind is bent it can cause horrendous problems with the MAF sensor causing the car to surge (over time) at idle!

Other than that, welcome to the mid 20's my friend! Nice choice! Shame as the D5 as 400NM of torque (through the FRONT WHEELS  )

Don't need to worry as this is a newish one and has all the warranty remaining.

Not bad but suffers same problem as all pre 03 execs - is not a 5 Series and is thus only for those ardent BMW haters ;)

I wouldn't want one to be honest. Not everyone wants a BMW ;) . + I would only buy a BMW if if was a diesel or an M if I had to. They are undoubtedly a very fine car. Infact the BMW diesel is the only D engine I would consider worth buying after trying most manufaturers oil burners.

I also had the choice of cars such as the Focus ST, Astra VXR, RX8, 350z, 3/5 series, WRX etc etc (some of which would be S/H), in my price/budget/affordability. However I decided to save the finance and buy outright. I also needed a partially practical car.

The S60 has done 19k miles is under 2 years old and all for £10,000. I.e my deposit on any of the other above. Leaves me £300pm to save. It is nice after having the 172 for 2 years to get to enjoy some comfort on my travels.

A few weeks ago on the motoroway i found myself admiring an S60 R for a while in traffic. It looked really good in black on those big 5 spokes. nice cars
