I want to get Handbrake to only use one core of my e6400 during transcoding, I'm 'that' bothered that it'll take longer. In the options there is a drop down box to select number of cores but that seems to have no effect.

Is there another way of doing it?

Task Manager, right click on the process, set processor affinity to just use a specific core?

handbrake doesn't use multi-threaded codecs (which aren't open source, and thus, expensive) meaning that it can only use more than one core if you're encoding more than one item of media :)
