handbrake light on all the time ???

oh dear think it is a bit low ( hope was looking at the correct place ! )

about 1/2 cm from the MIN mark and about 2cm from the MAX mark.

Is it just the case of topping it up, and if so what with ( and don't just say brake fluid :p.) Suppose go to Halfords after work ??
 
STOP!

Your fluid should never be down. Brake light on indicates a problem with the brakes themselves, or low fluid due to something more serious.

Do not just sit on this one, last year my brake warning light flashed on for a second, next day it had a popped cylinder and brakes went dead. To think the day before I was caning up the motorway is terrifying.

If you did a driving test you'll know that the handbrake light is also the brake warning light!
 
Chronos is basically right, fluid levels should never noticably drop unless the pads are at the very end of their lifespan. Check them and check for leaks, particularly at flexi hoses, master cylinder and rear wheel cylinders (inside the drum)
 
thanks again. Just spoke to my local car place where i had my MOT done this year. They said they will check my brakes / fluid for free and go from there.

Sure i checked my brake pads probably 2 months ago and wasn't too bad. :confused:
 
They'll check it for free because its not leaving the garage if they don't like the look of it. Make sure you take it somewhere you can afford to pay.
 
well just spoke to another garage ( where i got my tyres done recently and a client for the company i work at... ) who say they will look at it but think they can beat it EASILY by at least £70 :eek: :confused:


now i'm confused guess i will take it in and see what happens ??
 
Sounds a bit like the first garage are taking it to the extreme to be honest but I'm no expert on nissan prices. Get a second opinion elsewhere.

No, sounds high. A 15 second search on Ebay's Buy It Now auctions and I can't find any Almera pads over £30 a set. Discs seem to be £40 - £90 depending on the model.

Discs and pads are very easy with only a basic tool kit. Can you fit them yourself? You could probably halve that bill....
 
hmm with my car I have a problem in the same vane.

sometimes after coming to a standstill the handbrake light comes on for a few seconds and then goes away - is this likely also a fluid problem?

can't check right now but will definitely do so in morning.

can't really do it myself ( no time / lazy / no tools :p ) will check out the other place if it is around £200 then suppose sounds about right...
