I've been tinkering with the idea of getting a console for light gaming.

I really like the looks of the 360. The trouble is, I'm not at home as much as I used to be, and I'm not sure I'd get the value out of it. I don't have a HDTV either, just a 19' Standard LCD monitor, a 19' CRT Monitor, and a standard 32' widescreen (non HD) TV.

I'm leaning more and more towards a PSP - would come in really handy when I'm in the girlfriends and they're all huddlled around big brother or desperate housewives, or I'm out in the familys house and I need a gaming fix!! Like the idea of being able to watch movies/browse internet on the go too. Hell of a lot cheaper too. But is it really good enough for gaming?

If I get a PSP now, there's nothing stopping me getting a 360 later in the year ;) Or should I just get a 360 now?

ArgHHH :p

The 360 may be the better machine with the better games, but that only matters if you will actually use it.
If, like you say, you are not at yours a lot or do a lot of travelling tbh the PSP actually sounds like the better option.
Only you know how much use you will get out of either system. If you are home a fair amount and will be doing the majority of your gaming in your house/bedroom whatever, then the 360 without a doubt. But if you are never there, then the PSP is the better solution.
I'd say get the PSP just now and see how you go, don't like it you can sell it on. You will probably lose less money selling a PSP on than sellin a 360 on, if you decide you don't like whatever one you bought.

Yea, this is what I've been thinking about all day. When I'm at home, I often watch movies, or play away with the monster in my sig. Trouble is, I'm never home at the weekends, and it's that time that I feel like a blast at something while the girls are watching soaps or talking about weddings and babies

No doubt the 360 is an impressive piece of kit, but as you can see below, it's not like I don't have an ultra high quality gaming machine already. And I don't fancy shelling out for a new widescreen monitor/TV.

Long story short, I went down to the local high street store after work with a handfull of gift vouchers.
I was all set to buy a PSP, but the bundles on offer did nothing for me. A choice of PES6, Spidy2, or some carp arcade retro thing. Nah :o I'll wait a bit and see. Cheers for the help folks :)

doesnt sound like you will use a console enough to warrant the price tags of the next gen ones to me

Maybe after the summer. Might be a price drop closer to xmas anyway.
