Hi guys,

Was wondering, im handing in my notice for work tonight, marks and spencers =]] and dont really know what to write... Just thought i'd ask to see if anyone had any tips or knows what to include in the letter.

Cheers

Jack!

just be short and sweet, saying something along the lines of i will be able to work for you because of so and so, here is my 2/1 weeks notice, blah blah blah, thanks for the opporunity you have given me, etc

definately thank them for the opportnuity they gave you - never burn those bridges

wish them well for the future

Depends on the manner of you leaving i suppose, but something along the lines of

"Please take this as a formal letter of resignation, effective as of [insert date].
I understand my notice period is [however long], which should mean my last working day at the company to be [insert date].
Please inform me of any holiday entitlements etc that i may have remaining."

Then i'd put a short paragraph in depending on how you feel about the company and the manner in which you are leaving.

"I'd like to thank you for the opportunity blah blah...."

or

"You couldn't run a company if it smacked you on the **** then gave you a haircut blah blah...."

Yours sincerely..... :)

Just read the post above mine (which wasn't there as i typed mine).

Most people who have left our company have given the boss a right round of ****s in their resignation letter.
Burning bridges? They'd love to burn him, his family and everything he owns.....

Not everyone leaves under nice circumstances. My boss has ex-employees filing lawsuits all over the place.
Luckily, i get on with him very well. I'm his only I.T. support employee, one flick of a switch and he's shafted!

Dear Chris

After an appropriate period of deliberation, I have come to the decision to tender my resignation from , effective November 10, 2000.

Please know that I still maintain a high level of respect for you as a manager and colleague, and I thank you sincerely for the support and assistance you have offered me in each of those roles. I have been proud to work for over the past eight years; it has been a journey that has provided me an unparalleled foundation to move forward to new and exciting opportunities.

As such, I have decided to become a professional pirate. It has always been a dream of mine to live the life of a swashbuckling corsair, beholden to none and master of all I survey. Once my crew of unabashed rogues is assembled, we shall take to the capacious expanse of the high seas to pursue fortune, fame, and hair-raising adventure.

Our path may not be filled with the porcine comforts and technological marvels that provides, but we shall nonetheless move forward to carve a name for ourselves in the annals of bold insurgency and death-defying derring-do. Once I have a keen blade at my hip and the Jolly Roger is flapping high above me, I believe I will find my true calling.

Please note that I am currently accepting applications for First Officer, if you are at all interested in applying. I will provide a full medical and dental plan, which will offer immediate coverage of all maladies other than scurvy and the occasional bout of rickets.

Sincerely

I SO wanted to do that leaving Argos, but it might of fell through and I'd had to of gone back. :p

I don't see the fuss with resignation letters - you're more than likely going because you can't stand the place, the people and you've found something better.

I'm off, see ya x

would suffice.
