"After a tortuous gestation period the PS3 is finally here, which is some kind of achievement in itself. It's very early days but I've been unexpectedly impressed with what I've seen so far and that's without any of the multimedia or network elements that will make up a huge part of the whole PS3 offering. The games may offer little new - has any launch game since Super Mario 64? - but they have a visual polish uncommon in launch titles.... "

So maybe it won't be as bad as people have been saying? Not that I care as I won't be buying one anyway.

I never felt it would be as bad as people are saying, the only thing that has ever baffled me is how Sony seem to be laying all their bets on Motorstorm being the big launch title for them when every bit of video footage I've seen has the game looking duller than dishwater.

Surely wiisports or any of the wii games that make a lot of use of the wiimote offer more than a little new. Mario 64 was only two generations ago so we've only really had one generation where a game's not come out on launch that's been amazing. It's a strange way to think to be ok that you're spending £600 and wont be getting anything particularly new IMHO.

I dont think motorstorm is a launch title, could be wrong though. I wont be getting one at launch, perhaps later. Not just because of the price but also because theres enough on the 360 to keep me going. When it launches in November I doubt it will have anything that can match gears of war and when its released in europe next year, I doubt it will have any 'halo killer' because I think Halo 3 is comming out about that time.

By the looks of this article, Resistance seems to be another killzone, nothing that great just a pretty face so to speak.

Yeah motorstorm hasn't made it.

The big launch game is resistance fall of man, which looks great. on the OPM podcast it mentioned an interesting thing about the tilt, in multiplayer, tilting the controller 90degrees brings up the scoreboard. I know its simple and people willl be like meh, but i think thats quite a good use of it tbh

Does sound good... unless you're one of those joypad moving gamers, would be funny to see someone throwing the pad around and the scoreboard coming up every 5 seconds or so. Sounds quite good.

Man that would annoy me. I move the controller vigorously when playing a game on the 360 and I can imagine many a moment where I would be making a kill only to have the damn scoreboard come up. :p

Overall though its good that the article is positive about the PS3.

However I am finiding it very hard to become excited over a console that will offer nothing new to me than a 360 at going on nearly double the price.

Would be nice to see some proper competition though.

i've heard from some reviews that Resistance is just another average FPS with iffy aiming, suppose its down to what reviews you want to believe.

I would prefer rumble to some tilt gimmick. I doubt there will be many games where it will be successful.

The rumble was a gimick before ;)

I honestly can't remember the last time rumble added to my enjoyment of a game, a lot of times i end up sitting thinking 'is my rumble on? does my controller need charged' then it does rumble.
But i do think the tilt could add a lot, imagine playing something like rainbow 6 or fear and instead of holding down a button and slowly pressing the stick to lean, imagine just tilting the controller. If they get the bite points right it could be great. Burnout aftertouches using the tilt hmmmmm sounds good.(i am not saying that is methods they are using, just an example of what i can imagine it being used for)

As for the scoreboard thing, i thought the same, but a 90 degree tilt is a lot, i actually thought it was too much because it is going from - to | but i guess they have done that so it doesn't pop up randomly.
I just thought it was an interesting way to use it. handier than trying to hit the back/select button i suppose lol

Agreed with Jumpurs TBH.

I HATE the rumble... I really REALLY hate it. Its the first thing I do when I get a game is to disable it.

As for the scoreboard, It will be interesting how they implement it, I would get a bit annoyed if the score popped up cause I forgot and moved my hand a bit and then died for it :/

Anyone that's ever used the ms freestyle pro joypad will be highly dubious of any tilt gimmick......sounded a great idea until I got one, then omg what a waste of money! However, I'm still open minded enough to give it a try in the errant belief that maybe, just maybe, Sony have refined it enough to be usable.

It adds nothing for my money either, infact turning it off on the 360 was the best thing ive done. Dont miss it at all.

Glad to hear that they are impressed with the PS3.

On the tilt v Rumble... I would much rather have rumble, the last thing I would want is to rotate the controller by accident or in frustration only for the character on screen to move and probably get me killed. I can't be the only person in the world who tries to play games while the better half is trying to clean and therefore makes you constantly move while playing, that's a recipe for disaster with a tilt sensitive controller. (same goes for the Wii)

The thing is though with the likes of the sidewinder you wont really devs using it as 95% of the people buying the game wont have it, but with a console its confined and you know everyone will have it, thats why i hope people come up with good/novel ideas to use it

I believe the pause button was invented some time ago... but i get what you're saying though, it will take some time to learn to not move the controller at the wrong time. It will also be much easier for someone to come along and mess up your game by simply nudging you.

You can't pause online play.
