Hands on Wii review, they don't seem impressed.

read the forum - you'll note a very good comment from someone - people said that the DS was gimmicky and that people would get bored with it when it first came out.

It is true, but then they were right. The DS was gimmicky and people did get bored with the gimmicks. But then games started to make better use of the features and it came into its own.

i feel that Wii may be resigned to the early graveyard of next gen consoles due to the strength of the other 2 players in the market, $ony/M$. the hype around Next Gen, and HD is too large to ignore. kids and women may keep the Wii lingering around but a lifecycle similar to a DC may ensue.

I couldn't wait for the Wii at first but now I'm starting to doubt it, thats not only because of one preview. Although it's clearly fun I can't see my self going back to Wii sports that often. Zelda will be amazing but looking at the lineup there is nothing else I'm hugly bothered about.

I'll still get one but I'm not sure how long I'll keep coming back to it.

Hugs 360

i find the only game i play on my 360 is geometry wars but thats because its so dam good. Im going to hold out on the Wii for a couple of months and get my hands on one and see what i think then

I think it was a good preview. He makes the point that while he enjoyed it, it wasn't the second coming that some people/sites seem to claim. He cut through the PR, and the hype nicely.

His criticisms did seem to be based mainly on Zelda - a GC game with the extra features of the wii bolted on near the end of its development. Wii Sports, Excite Truck, Wario Ware etc apparently worked very well with the wiimote.

It's a shame Metroid and Mario weren't available during the hands on, I think that would have given a better impression of what we can expect.

The review centred on his expereince as a 30 something male playing relatively unsophisticated games and he seemed to feel a little self conscious about leaping around the room.

For people with young kids the Wii looks superb. My 4 year old already moves the controller around and leans etc when playing games, it is instinctive.

We've got a wet miserable winter ahead of us and I think the Wii is going to give my daughter hours of physical fun in family orientated games that both my wife and I can play without any problems at all.

And while the wife and daughter are jumping around playing with the Wii I'll be able to spend some time finishing off the 360 games I bought last Xmas lol.

I think the Wii is simply a different market, mainly kids and families, whereas the 360 is not family orientated. I can't really play Oblivion, Condemned or Dead Rising in front of a 4 year old girl but we could play Wii Sports together and it'll be great.

Dont underestimate the power of the whining kid that wants a new game. If the wii gets off to a good start I can see it doing very well.

Other than little kids, the wii is the only console my non/casual gaming, 30 something friends are showing the slightest bit of interest in. It was the same with the DS, a few of them even popped out and bought one on the strength of Brain Training.

Had a DS on the day of release along with my mate. He still plays it, I would if mine hadn't been nicked. Games like Advance Wars (especially!!!) and Brain training give these things such value and longevity.

I will definately be getting a Wii, though not until just after xmas. Then i will, i have no problems jumping around looking like a tard :D

Zelda "dodgy graphics" what in the name of hell is he smoking ?

The fact that this second remote is essential for the Wii experience raises an interesting question

What a lot of *****

I wouldn't really trust an article on gaming from them. It's a mod site, not a gaming one, they have just built up a reputation for themselves as reviewers. I read a review on the new World of Warcraft expansion a while ago on that site and the reviewer had never even played the game so the review was awful because he didn't know what he was talking about.

EDIT: His first paragraph gives it away - nintendo have never been about brute power.

Interesting article :) I can't say I'm surprised by their findings.

indeed, pretty much summed up what i expected. We'll see i guess. Tho i agree with him i think it may be a novelty item, not being used much come easter next year. And once the novelty of swinging the controller wears off the Wii doesnt have much else to offer to be entirely honest (would people still be keen if it utilised a normal pad for example?).

If the wiimote is utilised correctly, ninty may be ok, but only time will tell.

And i also agree the 2nd controller is kind of neccessary to play the Wii as it was intended, and i think ninty agree - by selling Wii:Play with free controller, which is a good way of getting a 2nd game/controller.
