Hi all

I'm thinking of going to an E3600 or E6400 or E6600, at the moment I've got an AMD X2 4800 sat in an Asus AN8-SLI Premium motherboard, I only ocassionally dabble in overclocking. I have XFX 7800GTX 512 Extreme Edition graphics card also.

So my questions are
1) Is it worth any upgrade at all atm?

2) If so should I just change the CPU to one of the above along with a suitable motherboard.

3) Again is it worth keeping the Video card with the above upgrades or should I change the lot.

4) Any combination of the above.

Depends on what you use your PC for really.

But I'd say you have a very decent rig there that will handle all current games just fine, plus with your mobo you should be able to achieve a nice OC.

Upgrade to C2D will require new motherboard as well as new DDR2 RAM so I don't think it's worth it for you tbh. You will not notice much difference in games if you intend to keep that video card. I'd wait at least till AM2+ CPUs start appearing next year.

What is the rest of your rig like??

No, YOu have a decent CPU. Core 2's do peform better without a doubt but by the time you've change your mobo, memory and CPU you wouldn't have gainned really much more unless you intend on doing some heavy OC'ing.. Bang for buck, i can't see it justified.. You can always play the waiting game in this hobby but I think you'd be best off waiting at the moment.

PS I have nearly the same rig as you... I haven't had any problems playing any game at high settings .. Until i do, then I'll think about an upgrade.

I would keep what you have , your 7800GTX should be fine for now still a great card and will handle most games , i would upgrade next year , wait for now , DX10 has yet to produce any games that must be run with it to make me even start to consider an upgrade
