Well... at present it's all a bit confused in Windows.

We have hangouts to replace Google talk - which is fine. But just installed the Chrome Hangouts extensions, so now I have gtalk and hangouts lol.

Google talk is still my access point into gmail, so I still need to keep that for the moment really.

How do you guys have it all configured?

I use hangouts on my phone and tablet, and pidgen on my PC. Then use the gmail checker chrome add on for email notifications.

DeanFry, your sig is too big in both directions and 4 times in file size. Jus sayin

Also never used Hangouts/Google Talk

GTalk has disappeared for me and been replaced by Hangouts. Hardly use it because WhatsApp seems to dominate mobile messaging now. As much as I like WhatsApp, it annoys me that there isn’t a web-based client available.

If Google ditched the SMS app, integrated SMS into Hangouts and made it the default messaging app in Android they would be on to a winner.

I use Hangouts a lot, got quite a few people who use it and being able to continue conversations on a web browser after starting on a mobile/tablet is a great feature.
I like the UI of it a lot too.

So what do you use for email instead of gtalk to notify you have an email? (I liked that you could click straight on the icon to go to your web mailbox with gtalk... hangouts doesn't have that).

The problem here is that if I want to have a video chat, I have to start the browser. To get around that, I use the hangouts extension which then results in me getting two conversation boxes, one in gtalk another in hangouts.
