hangs on "windows xp is starting up"

just before it shows the user names, pc just hangs... until i restart. its very annoying. the only time i ever had this before is when i did stupidly high overclocks. but im running stock speeds.

Is it where the Windows XP logo is shown, withg the moving blue line below it?

I would try starting it in safemode and looking in device manager for any yellow ! marks.

I have seen this before when the GFX driver wont load properly, could be worth a go re-installing that? Or a system restore to last know good boot.

the PC works fine when i restart it. its after the loading bar. it briefly says windows is starting up on the blue background before it shows the user names. of course it hangs on it instead of loading... restart.. works ?? sometimes it even gets to the username icons then freezes so i cant click the names.

in both cases i can move the mouse pointer.

try to boot in safe mode.

the PC works. its just when i restart it, it doesnt post til i restart it 6 times then hangs on the windows screen. afte ra few more restarts works normally. til the next restart.
