Hi all

My friend's going to be building a new computer soon and he asked if I could spec it for him. He's building completely from scratch, so he'll need a monitor as well. I've narrowed down the monitor selection to the two in the thread title, and it'll be mainly used for gaming. The widescreen Hanns-G seems to be really good, so how does the standard one compare? Even with a DVI cable, it's about £30 cheaper than the Samsung. Is the Samsung worth the extra or should I just go for the Hanns-G?

Thanks

they are both pretty comparable in performance, just one is WS and the other is 4:3 format. I guess that is going to be your deciding factor here :) Both are pretty well established, the Samsung more so as it's been around a lot longer (previously the 913N) but both are good screens

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking at the 4:3 Hanns-G though (HC194D), not the widescreen one (HW191D). How does that one compare to the Samsung do you know?

ah my bad. It should offer similar performance to the Samsung since fundamentally the panel used is of the same generation and technology. However, the Samsung is much more established and may offer a better build quality. I've not seen much about the Hanns-G model there tbh

Hmm, decisions... I'll see how my friend's budget is. I'm probably leaning towards the Hanns-G though since the widescreen model is so popular and because it has DVI.

DVI is nice to have, but the quality of the VGA on the Samsung is such high quality that when it comes to performance and image clarity i doubt you'd notice any difference at all anyway. See how the budget goes though :)

I talked to my friend and we've decided to go with the Hanns-G and put the money towards some upgrades in other areas of the computer. Hopefully it'll be alright, I've seen loads of positive user reviews on a certain large American online store... Wish us luck :D
