Hey guys.

Got a Hanns-G HW191D 19" widescreen secondhand today. It works great and no dead pixels. I have connected it to my computer using a vga cable, with the end connecting into the computer using a vga to dvi connector.

No every so often, maybe every 10 mins, the screen goes completely black for a second or two and then comes back on. I'm not sure whats causing this, anyone know what might be causing it? I have checked the cables including the power cable and they are all connected securely.

Whilst the screen goes black the computer is still running fine (games continue to play, music, etc) so its just the screen thats going black as far as I can tell.

Also it did it more frequently while I was playing Oblivion. I don't think it happened whilst playing Counter-Strike: Source.

I'm running the monitor in it's optimum resolution of 1440x900 @ 60hz.

If anyone could tell whats wrong or how I could fix it then I'd be very grateful :) apart from that, great monitor!

Edit: It hasn't done it for a while now... I was running at 75hz, then I read that theres no need to so switched it down to 60hz. Maybe that was the cause of the problem? Argh, sorry if it was, pointless thread? :P

Edit2: oh, no, just did it again whilst in 60hz :(

Edit3: just remembered I hadn't installed the .inf file for the monitor. Hopefully that'll fix it. Sorry for the useless topic if it does fix it. I'll keep you posted xD

Edit4: It just did it again :/ what could be causing this?

Edit5: I just watched an episode of Lost and it happened about 7 or 8 times throughout the 40 min long episode. Anybody?

Edit6: Just became unusable for a while. Playing counter strike and it just went black more often. Then just went off completly, and power light went orange as if it was in standby. Got a fan on the monitor to cool it see if it makes a difference, its working now at least. Faulty monitor perhaps?
Ordered a dvi cable, should be here on the 10th hopefully.

Well I recieved the DVI cable this morning and it seems to have fixed the problem. Last night with the VGA cable the monitor became unusable, just wouldnt come back on.

With that sorted another problem arises... typical aint it :P

Anyway, in the monitors native resolution (1440x900) the desktop is stretched off the screen to the right for some reason. When I place my mouse at the edge of the screen the desktop pans across to the right. Kinda like if you have a too high resolution on a monitor, but it's running at the native resolution!

Anyone know whats causing this? For some reason the menu in the OSD for adjusting the size and centre of the screen is greyed out so I cant try and use that.

Thanks for any help.

All problems sorted. Appears it was the nvidia drivers causing the problem. Rolled back to a later version.

Thanks for the help :D haha, thread can be closed if the mods wish.
