Hanns.G Monitor Return or OClockers?

My 'Hanns.G HG281D 28" Widescreen LCD Monitor' has been fantastic for the price. However, recently it has devolved a fault, the 'brightness Button' on the control panel magically presses itself! It appears on screen (at 80% - I've manually set it at this) and then shoots up to 100% the Brightness Box either stays on until I manually press it or sometimes disappears on its own. Obviously the box randomly appearing is a big problem as it can happen every few seconds or so.

the real question is has anyone had this before or had any experience sending goods to 'Hanns.G' or are Overclockers responsible? I bought the Monitor in October 08.

Cheers

Give that number a call, they should arrange for a new monitor to be dropped off, and your faulty one collected.

As far as I know the rules on returns are:

1) if it breaks down within "an acceptable period" (~6 months), you return it to the retailer and they have to prove it's fine/faulty.
2) if it breaks down after ~6 months you return it to the retailer, but it's up to you to prove it was faulty when you bought it.

Or, you can always return it to whoever offered a separate warranty. Did Hanns.G offer a 1/2/3/x year warranty on it when you bought it?

EDIT: Argh, TaKeN just answered that question. You're probably best going with that then.

Thanks for the replies, I’ve given HANS-G a call but I need the serial number, as I’m at work I’ve not got it on me. I’ll call tomorrow and update. I’ll be very happy if I get a new one in two days…although as I’ve got no dead pixels I’m a little worried a replacement might have one or two…

Usually monitor swap outs under warranty are refurbished monitors that others have returned and have subsequently been repaired but the above suggests Hanns.G are providing new replacements. Is that right?

Yep hannsG were very good when my old 19inch developed a fault. They delivered the new unit and collected the old one at the same time.

Right then thought I’d send an update, I contacted HANNS-G today with my serial number, I was asked to e-mail proof of purchase (contacted overclockers for this as I’m at work), e-mailed the invoice and had an e-mail back within the hour confirming the purchase had been verified. I was asked to call to arrange an exchange date, I called and the earliest HANNS-G can do is tomorrow, I’m obviously not happy with this as I want it now!!! Exchange date arranged for the next day, I must admit I’m very impressed with the service (assuming it turns up). In fact I’d go so far as to say I’m amazed!

I know the monitor is bottom of the 28” range (but still very good), but with service like this you can buy with confidence!

I’m tempted to re-post this so everyone can see!

Thanks for all the advice.

I bought my son a 22" monitor for £ 130, it broke after 9 months, so I sent it back at my own expense, £ 11.
2 MONTHS later I was offered £ 88 and told that I should be grateful for that.
In the future I will stick with manufacturers warranty

My new monitor has just arrived, 24 hours after i first contacted HANNS-G, i am amazed!!! Working 100%
Nice! Had a similar thing happen with a budget monitor replacement from another store.

Fast turn around and clear direct comms.

Makes you wonder why the larger 'better known' makes don't provide service like this.

Replacements don't seem to be new. I just had a HG281D exchanged under warranty and the rear (of the replacement) had noticeable amounts of dust in the nooks and crannies - not particularly impressed. When I asked the service centre customer service rep whether the monitor would be refurbished it was stated that it would not be but would be one from the service centre (I'm not clear what the difference is supposed to be).

On the upside they were quick to replace and three years seems a decent warranty.

Just an update ...

The brightness menu started magically appearing and disappearing on the replaced monitor so I called up Hanns for another replacement which they agreed without a problem. After a missed delivery (because of a malfunction of their computer system) the new unit arrived and unlike the previous model appeared to be "as new" with no dead pixels. So things have finally worked out OK (fingers crossed).
