First off, hi! I have been using this forum to decide on a new monitor, and went for the HannsG discussed a few threads down. I know there is a discussion there, but as this is a bit more general I decided to do a new thread.

Right, this is basically the same as I posted on the Hardforums:

Got the monitor, all looking good, no dead pixels, nice colours etc etc BUT:

1. When I connect my 360 via HDMI it won't let me choose above 480p! :confused:Could this be down to the 360 not seeing the monitor as capable, or could it even be my HDMI cable (gold plated from Amazon, about £15, should be fine I think)?

2. I have a component->VGA adapter, so tried that out. And through it I am allowed to choose anything up to 1080p!! I should say know, that when switching between HDMI (480p) to component VGA (at apparently 1080p, even though component is technically meant to be incapable of this? Is the VGA adapter fooling the 360 into sending a signal the cables can't actually support?) I couldn't notice much difference. If I got the official VGA cable, would that improve it?

3. MS announced 16:10 support. Would that make this monitor a 1:1 pixel mapper when it comes in, or improve the picture?

I must say, I only really want to know this so I know I am getting the best possible picture I can, and the HDMI thing puzzles me. I have played some Gears of War and PES2008 on the screen through both connections, and both look great in my opinion. But could it get better through a different connection/official VGA/16:10 support?

Don't own the monitor myself but it might be because the monitor isn't HDCP capable trough HDMI?
I know that through VGA this doesn't matter as it's an analog signal and HDCP isn't an issue.
I run my 360 through the official VGA cable and that runs at 1080p apparently so I would just stick with VGA if I was you.

Its supposed to be HDCP as well though, sorry, should have mentioned that in the OP.

Another thing about the HDMI cable: I have a vague memory of it only allowing max 480p on the Sharp Aquos LCD TV downstairs, although thats not even HD ready, just HD "compliant" I think, which I took as the reason for that.

Any update on this, thanx :)

I got this screen and haven't tried me 360 yet but was considering mounting on wall etc and dont wanna waste my time?

sorry to hear about the problems

The screen is 10000% Hdcp compatible, as I am running my ps3 through it now.

Have you tried with other HDMI cables? Is the Xbox set to display all resolutions?

From my own experience the xbox doesn't bother you about HDCP unless you're about to play a DVD or HD-DVD. I have a old plasma thats technically a monitor, but over HDMI (using DVI connector) i can choose all the way up to 1080p.
