Hannspree XV JT01-32E2

I've been thinking about this tv and its new 37" brother for the last 2 weeks. Whilst I see a lot of favourable reviews I can't help but feel that they'll go boobs up a day out of warranty. The price seems too good for there not to be a catch.

That said I've not completley dismissed buying one. I just need a bit more reassurance than what I've read so far.

My sentiments exactly - but from other forums, I have noticed that OC get cheap products in that can be be top quality (including OCuk value products).

I've heard of Hannspree before though (I think) which reassures me a bit... but then again, I've also heard of Tesco Value/Sainsbury Economy/Asda SmartPrice... :-p

If you take the plunge before I do, could you post some pics and tell us about the Hannspree? :D

Thanks!

Thanks for the link - that forum has a lot of chat about this model on there!!

sist_si - let us know about it when you get it! From what I've been reading, I am jealous already!

I've just noticed that the 37" model is on sale this week on OCuk (10 quid off) but I'm wondering if anyone thought the extra 5 inches is worth the extra 100+ quid?

Will do buzwad. Will do.
I thought the same thing about the 37" myself. I think a 32" screen in my bedroom is gonna be fairly huge looking anyway so I thought I'd save the £100 and my eyes :)

A competitor has them for £299.99 with free delivery. Out of stock atm though a few are expected in shortly.

It's a shame a sky box won't upscale on it's own as that would eleviate my SD worries.

I bought one of these on Tuesday afternoon (2pm) and it was on my delivered at 7.15am the next day! (Thanks OCuk)

I've tried using the VGA connection to the PC which looks great to me - playing a DVD via that connection looked good :) Also used the standard analogue antenna which looked good (sorry, I'm biased... am used to a 14" crt).

If anyone is interested in this model later, feel free to ask me about it.... will post some pics here later

I hope imageshack pics are ok:

My apologies for some very amateur photos (also apologies to david, I dont have HDMI devices - these pics are all off the analogue tuner):

Bought one of these last week as i wanted something HD for my bedroom to hook up to my PS3. Was a bit dubious about this being so cheap and had read some mixed reviews.

I have to say i am very impressed. It looks the part unlike a lot of other budget screens. Glossy Black with a nice finish on the panel itself. Build quality is fairly good too. The back panels that cover the inputs dont quite fit prefectly but its not like i spend much time looking at the back. It is a little fatter than my 42" sammy i have in my living room but again im not looking at it in profile ;)

Viewing angles are pretty good. Dont notice much difference at all from sitting level with the screen to lying on the floor or looking at it from an angle.

Speakers while nothing to write home about are adequate. I havemine hooked up to a 5.1 Surround but tested the speakers just to see what they were like.

SD picture isnt that great. It can be quite fuzzy and can look pixillated. Didnt notice much difference between the built in analougue tuner and a freeview box but for the amount of tv i watch its more than adequate.

HD picture when connected through HDMI is where this really shines. In 1080i/720p its crystal clear. Brightness and colour are very good and compared it to my 42" sammy and the difference is minimal. Upscaled DVD's and blue rays through the PS3 are awesome as well as HD games. This is what i bought it for and i have not been dissapointed!!

VGA connection is a bit crap tbh. I connected it to the rig in my sig and the picture suffered from jerkyness and tearing. Works fine on my sammy and the reviews i have read of this screen said the VGA was not much cop.

Havent tested component or composite yet as i dont have any leads to do so.

All in all a very good set for the money. I wasnt dissapointed and as usual the service from OCUK was excellent.

When i get home i will try and upload some pics of this displaying HD signal.

I'm looking at one too, but I'm a bit worried about all the reviews and wondering if I should plump for a more named brand but smaller. But at the same time, I have a Hanns-G monitor (19" TFT) and it's a very good monitor to me!

I'm going to be using it for Xbox 360 / PS2 / DVDs through PC. I've heard from a mate that a PS2 looks farly horrendous through any large TV (understandable) although I think he's blowing it out of proportion as he has played a 360 for the past year and a bit, and a PS3 for a few months now. I find the pixelly bits on Final Fantasy 7/8 welcoming rather than distracting, in the same way that the blocky character models on Goldeneye 64 are reminiscent of the good old days :D

The PS2 does look a bit lame through it, but if you get a component lead then it looks much better. Look out for 'Xploder HDTV', it's a pack which has a PS2 component lead and some software that will upscale games for you. Costs about £15 and is well worth the price.
I don't bother using the software, the lead on it's own does the job just fine.

Problem is I'll be using component for my 360, and I don't want to have to switch cables around all the time! I'll be using an audio splitter to play PC/360/PS2 through my speakers which is why I'll be using S-video, and not Scart, for my PS2.

Is it worth going for a component switcher too for flicking between PS2/360? Don't want my room full of switchers really, but if it's for the best! Although having said that I play a fair few PS1 games on my PS2 (Final Fantasy games mainly) and I'm not too sure if they'll support 480p resolution. Picking up a PS2 component cable is too problem - not too much point buying the "xploder HDTV" package if it's just really the component cable I need.
