Happiness is . . .

Don't have 8 server grade cores in ur PC tho ;) :p

Edit: Oh and my 2009 will haved 8Gb... 16gb is pushing it really...

I'm tempted by the next release.. with 16GB in but I'm also tempted to replace the MBP's 5400rpm drive with a SSD for the time being as I am meant to be saving for a house!

Just bumping this thread. Feek, do you have the 800Mhz stuff? Corsair or Crucial? I'm buying 8GB DDR2 for my Mac Pro and can't decide between the 667Mhz and 800Mhz RAM. Its for editing HD video in After Effects.

If it's the 2008 model then I believe you have to use 800MHz memory. Mine is neither Corsair or Crucial, I sourced it from Germany.

Cool. Yeah, its the 2008 model, 45nm Core 2 Quad tech I think. Cheers for the rapid response, I think I'll order that Corsair (800Mhz) stuff now. Do people have problems with failures from FB-DIMM's or is it generally A-okay? I assume installation isn't too hard although I'm still worried about fiddling around with a £1500+ Mac.

I've not heard of any problems with memory failures and installation is easy. Have a look here for a good guide to installation, specifically what slots you should be using depending on how much memory you're adding.

Awesome. Cheers for the help, much appreciated. One absolute last question. By the looks of that guide I have to keep my Stock RAM (2x 1GB) installed still? (thus equating to 10GB of RAM instead of 8).

I did, but if you only want 8Gb instead of 10Gb then you'd take out the stock and put two each of the new ones on each card.

Ah fair enough, I've order 8GB (4x 2GB sticks) of Corsair stuff now anyway and 10GB sounds better than 8GB obviously so I'll probably do that.

My wallet hurts and I'm spending God knows how much on Final Cut soon. :(
