Jeez, today is the birthday of the first nuclear bomb test at White Sands, in America. it was called "Gadget"....

At 05:29:21 (July 16, 1945) local time, the device exploded. It left a crater of radioactive glass in the desert 10 feet (3 m) deep and 1,100 feet (340 m) wide. At the time of detonation, the surrounding mountains were illuminated “brighter than daytime” for one to two seconds, and the heat was reported as “being as hot as an oven” at the base camp. The observed colours of the illumination ranged from purple to green and eventually to white.

The roar of the shock wave took 40 seconds to reach the observers. The shock wave was felt over 100 miles (160 km) away, and the mushroom cloud reached 7.5 miles (12.1 km) in height. After the initial euphoria of witnessing the explosion had passed, test director Kenneth Bainbridge commented to Los Alamos director J. Robert Oppenheimer: “Now we are all sons of bitches”. Oppenheimer later stated that, while watching the test, he was reminded of a line from the Bhagavad Gita, a Hindu scripture: “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds”.

Why the **** would anyone celebrate the birth of a nuclear bomb, the most disgusting inhuman and indiscriminate weapon on earth?

You're celebrating a tool of death and destruction. That's ****** up.

Only Chris could or would want to celebrate the creation of the biggest weapon of mass destruction in history.

Not celebrating, merely bringing to the forum's attention that today marks the birthday of the first detonation of a nuclear bomb. Some might say nuclear weapons have stopped any more world wars since their first usage. Some would not. I personally have no strong feelings either way, but I am dubious about the safety of nuclear energy generation as my second post shows perhaps? I see the ban the bomb sentiment may not yet be dead though, already ;)

We don't mark Hilter's birthday...

Rubbish, from this year 2018, some obviously do:

Hundreds of neo-Nazis were expected to congregate on Friday, which marks Adolf Hitler's birthday, for a two-day festival in a small eastern German town where anti-fascist groups have vowed counter-protests.
A major police deployment aims to prevent violence during the "Schild und Schwert" (Shield and Sword, or SS) festival near the Polish and Czech borders that is expected to also attract eastern European extremists.

"You will see police on every corner," the local police chief told a regional newspaper, with hundreds of officers brought in from other states, while Polish authorities across the Neisse river border also said they would step up patrols.

Some 1,100 police will be backed by water cannon and with boats patrolling the Neisse border river, on the bank of which the festival is held, reported the local Saechsische Zeitung.
