Let’s not trash the thread by going into a nationalism debate, it’s not politics, it’s just our Saints day. If the Irish can be allowed to be Irish and proud on ST Patrick’s day, then I can proud to be English today

As he was of Greek descent, shouldn't you be celebrating with beef stifado?

It’s not about his nationality, he’s celebrated because of his Christian ideals and his protestations against the Roman’s treatment of christians.

It’s the truth, it’s not my fault if most of the 100 you asked are thick.

St Patrick did more than just drive snakes out of Ireland, but plenty of Irish would give you that answer.

It’s just a day to celebrate your country and its history and have a good time doing it. There’s nothing sinister about it, they’ll be doing exactly the same in Portugal, Bulgaria, Romania, Catalonia, Rio and more

Should be a bank holiday imo. If you ask me, every countries "national" day should be a bank holiday for that nation.

Indeed. I was just about to point that out myself. The double standards are at play on here again. If anyone tried to criticise or derail, say the Eid thread, they'd have their comments deleted and more than likely earn themselves a suspension. Yet the mods seem perfectly happy to allow it in this thread.

I’m not surprised. I’ve always felt the mods exhibit double standards on issues like this.
