As title says really it just seems to be doom and gloom posts atm which are putting me off joining, how about peeps posting who are happy, say put speed you get, location etc ?

Very Happy, been with cable for 6 years never had a problem, been down the odd time over the years but I always get max speeds, getting 2.4MBps daily and recently I have had no problem getting those speeds after 4pm, must be lucky that I dont get hit with traffic shaping.

Been pretty good for me, had a blip stage for a few months where we would lose internet connection maybe 10 times a month for a couple of hours, it's seem to have passed and all good now. Can't wait for the 20Mbit upgrade we're supposed to be getting in July.

Ive been happy with Cable Wireless/NTL/VM up until the 20MB roll out which is very slow at the moment. Been with them for about 6-7 years

Been with them in two houses over 6 years, always got good speeds in the past (on 4MB atm). Just lately web browsing does seem really slow occasionally, but things like Day Of Defeat:Source and Counter Strike work perfect with low pings and downloads are nice and quick.

Me :)
20 megs in Norwich. With the shaping running, it normally slows down to a 1meg crawl, but the rest of the day/ night runs perfectly.

No complaints really.

Mine is fine. I get decent speeds in the evenings on the rare occasion that I do download and overnight (when I do the bulk of my downloading) I max out at 2400KB/sec no problems. Never had a problem and the peak hour traffic management is no problem to me so I'm more than happy.

Been with TW BY since Dec 1999 and had little problems (maybe a month downtime in total since installed). It has been a bit slow this year but that seems to have been fixed partly with the new modem. 20mbit hasn't come out here yet.

Using the Uddingston UBR's and getting 2.4m down from Giganews and VM newsgroups, overall performance is excellent around here and very little downtime at all.

Well im just down the road from you in Croftfoot and i get terrible speeds since the 20mb upgrade. From about 4 till 12 at night it runs at about 512kb/sec

i've been with ntl for about 6 years and untill the most recent upgrade it's been a very good connection, shame Virgin media is already up for sale...

I've been with them on the cable service for about five years now and it's gotten noticably worse in the last year, though I think that's just the Renfrew UBR not being able to cope with subscriber demand. I'm on the 10 Mb service and I get between 700k and 1 Mb for downloads depending on the web site. Torrents vary of course but usually max out about 800k due to my router I think (Linksys WRT54GS v4 w/DD-WRT firmware). Hopefully I'll get my Surfboard 3100 modem replaced soon as it can't deal with the 20 Mb though not in a hurry due to the complaints about speeds.

Gaming pings at the moment are very poor (might be due to traffic shaping though) about ~100ms in CSS to UK servers and are normally about ~40ms if gaming in the early hours of the morning. Then again others have reported the same issue so not sure if it's shaping or a VM issue.

Customer support is a bit of hit-and-miss depending on who you get, I find that the foreign call centres just read off a script (and mostly called Brian) and can be frustrating to deal with at times. There should be fewer billing problems as the 18 (yes 18!!!!) systems are getting merged into one and my account is done at the end of this week. Local call centres are usually very good though for sorting out problems with services, if you don't mind waiting in a long queue.

In general I was a happy customer with VM until the last six months and considering going to Sky but I'm waiting to see what comes of the 20 Mb service once the upgrades have been completed on the network and I get a new modem. I only have their phone service as I cancelled my V+ subscription after the spat with Sky and various box problems.

I moved over to VM from IDNet as I was scrapping my BT line. Very happy so far, been with them for about 4 months now.

Should be 20mb, but happy with that. Its constant. I never hit the limits. Have sipgate setup through the connection so rely on it for phone too, never let me down yet.

This my worry if i sign up i stuck too a 12 month contract which worries me abit paying for a rubbish service, for the life of me i don't know why they boosted it too 20 meg when clearly they could only produce 10 meg, i for one would have been well happy with 10 meg constant.

So not sure which end to take now, can get SKY LLU where we going and ukonline llu, both say no limits(i know there is a limit still), both get good speeds constantly is it better to have say 8meg constant speeds or 20 meg eratic, trouble is i am a speed freak the sound of 20 meg is just so appealing, i can cope with the shaping if i get the 5 meg in those times and its full speed in other times.

When it works VM is very good for speed.

You shouldn't have a problem with VM cable as there are very few variables to contend with as there is for ADSL.

I've been a very happy customer right up until this 20mb fiasco. But I'm sure it'll be sorted soon.

I'm in Swindon and very happy with the service. It hasn't failed since it was installed. Special offer of £10 p.m for a year and the speed which is supposed to be 2Mbps is more like 4 Mbps.

I don't do a great deal of downloading, just the odd linux distro here and there and in the evening for general surfing across a network has been first rate.

Our ADSL speed where we are is rubbish and was a poor 512 Kbps. So this has been a good move.
