Hard disk fault?

Or motherboard fault?

What does it mean if a machine will boot but neither the SATA or IDE harddisk is recognised?

All different combinations of the drives have been tried, SATA only, IDE only.
 
It's not my machine it's a friends and he is fairly computer literate so I'm sure he had the power cables in :p

They do not show in the BIOS so I suggested he put in the HDD from his bros pc to check.
 
Check cables, and double check BIOS options - check the different options with IDE/SATA/AHCI mode etc. Also - put your hand on the hard disk when it is powering up and see if you can feel it spinning up.
 
I had that problem with my old gaming rig :eek:

I just changed the cable, job done and sorted
