hard disk problem

hi, i am trying to backup my hard disk but acronis says it has some problems reading certain areas of the disk, so i am worried that the backup wont be valid for a restore

i need to use fdisk /f but cant as i have no floppy drive to use a dos disk and it cant be done within windows (xp media center)

Hit F8 at bootup and pick command mode from the resulting menu, run it from there.

tried F8 but only option which had command prompt was safe mode with command prompt, so it booted to safe mode and gave me the command prompt but it could not do fdisk as it was still within windows

there ws no command prompt by itself

is there a way of invoking a command promt within windows so that next time the pc starts it goes right into dos?
