"Setup did not find any hard disk drive installed on your computer"

The mobo didn't come with a floppy with drivers, it is on a CD so I am kind of stuck as my PC doesn't have a disc-drive.

The mobo is Gigabyte P35C-DS3R and I am trying to install XP.

Ani ideas?

Connect the drive to one of the Jmicron ports (purple) and set the BIOS (Gigabyte) to IDE mode. Windows should then install.

5-1-2 Configuring GIGABYTE SATA2 SATA Controller
A. Installing SATA hard drive(s) in your computer
Attach one end of the SATA signal cable to the rear of the SATA hard drive and the other end to available
SATA port on the motherboard. If there is more than one SATA controller on your motherboard, refer to
"Chapter 1," Hardware Installation," to identify the SATA controller for the SATA port. (For example, on
this motherboard, the GSATAII0 and GSATAII1 ports are supported by GIGABYTE SATA2.) Then connect
the power connector from your power supply to the hard drive.
B. Configuring SATA controller mode and device boot order in BIOS Setup
Make sure to configure the SATA controller mode correctly in system BIOS Setup and set the device
boot order.
Step 1:
Turn on your computer and press <Delete> to enter BIOS Setup during the POST. In BIOS Setup, go to
Integrated Peripherals, ensure that Onboard SATA/IDE Device is enabled. Then set Onboard
SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to RAID/IDE (Figure 1). If you do not want to create RAID, set this item to IDE
or AHCI, depending on your need.

If you have no floppy drive then try this:-

You will need to do a bit of reading to learn how to use it but basically you can create a new windows disk with the all the mobo drivers combined within it as well as other things such as a completely unattended installs, patches and updates.

A JMicron chip is often used to add connectivity, for example more SATA ports and firewire.

Newb question: if Vista was used instead of XP would the SATA drives be identifed without the need to install additional drivers?

According to this review http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/06/01/gigabyte_ga-p35-ds3r/2
Gigabyte use their own chip for adding additional SATA ports, not sure if that makes any difference, it may even be made by JMicron.

Good luck getting it working.

You won't need SATA drivers unless you are installing a RAID array.

You shouldn't need to change the BIOS at all from new, double check the data and power connections first. I used the same mobo a week or so ago and had no issues using one of the top yellow connectors near the writing.

Can you help me out, on audio.

When I go Control Panel, it can't detect any audio devices. And so I can't get any sound from anything....

But when I go to the Gigabyte Audio Driver, and do the demo/test it works.

Any help?

Did you auto-install from the driver CD?

Try removing all audio related drivers in control panel and auto-run the driver CD again.
