Who here still buys hard disks? I do.

The whole digital rights thing has me too worried to invest heavily into downloaded games to be quite honest. A hard disk I own, or at least there's very little the companies can do to stop me acting like I do. But things such as steam are a gateway to a game. If steam bans you for whatever reason, you don't still have those games. You are denied access to all of them. Now I don't intend to do any rule breaking but that fact alone is enough to make me buy hard disks.

Do you download or buy disks? Why?

Just don't do anything stupid on Steam and you won't get banned, simple. Downloads are far more convenient, especially with Steam to keep them all in the same place.

I take it you mean Optical discs and not hard disks?

All my PC games are Steam with the exception of 2. Never had an issue and in fact it was because of a lost game that I joined Steam in the first place.

As said previously don't do anything daft and you will be fine.

Disc for me, other than those not available via disc i.e. some dlc’s, for instance ACR dlc for arma 2, only via download.
Other than that, disc all the time..

I mostly download at the moment for convenience/price but I'd still buy physical copies at the right price.

The thing is even with a physical copy you can't guarentee that you won't get screwed over on digital rights anyway these days what with online DRM systems etc.

I've generally bought physical copies in the past due to price, but I'm rather stuck now that I've added an SSD to my system, as I no longer have an SATA port free for my optical drive to use.

I pretty much exclusively use steam.

Recently I bought Shogun TW2 and the expansion as a 'hard copies' from Amazon as they were considerably cheaper than buying through Steam.
Funny thing is, they came with steam keys so the discs have never left the box.
It's the future.

(great games too :D)

It depends really, steamwork retail is the superior format to anything, as lets face it would you rather download Shogun 2 Max Payne 3 etc which are 30GB or would you rather install it from a disc and let it update? Very few people have the speeds to nab over 10GB in an reasonable amount of time.

I am lucky to have never had to endure ADSL in all my time being online (25+ years).

I went from dial up straight onto Fibre.

This, it looks as though the majority of games in the future will require an internet connection/authentication at some point.

Buy mainly from Steam.

I will buy hard copies if they are Steamworks and cheaper or Steamworks keys from place like Greenman Gaming or Gamersgate.

I've been buying disks for 14 years or so and it has taken me a long time to come around to actually liking steam. I have about 150 games on steam now. Some of my uni friends who have just startedr pc gamng don't have any disk games at all and don't know what it was like before steam, they think it is the bees knees. Which I guess it is. Now I have unlimited downloads I like steam and think it Is the future of pc gaming, but I still prefer the physical disk. I guess I am just resistant/boring like that!

I find something satisfying about a filled shelf I guess lol. It's a bit like book vs kindle book. I'll always prefer the book even though there's nothing really wrong with an e-book.

I'd rather have retail, its just a pure convenience thing for me.

Yes, RETAIL is normally more convenient in my case. Because I only have 6mb broadband, installing from disk is such a breeze.

There are times when I want some obscure game I can't buy in the highstreet which is the only time I really buy digitally.

I have a "media cupboard" where I keep all my cd's, games and books and I just stash the boxes in there. Its no problem.

Bizarre. I'd say i prefer online for the ongoing convenience hard drive are so big now that there is no need to uninstall things and with steam it auto updates and games just work even after a reinstall of the OS. Also with gog the installers can jjust be sat on your hard drive so no chance of access to them being removed.
