Hard drive at 68c... is this bad?

Just checked my hard drive temp and its reaching 68c according to speedfan. Logic tells me that is really really bad, like 2x over operating temp?

Any ideas if this is sustainable?

Sounds a wee bit hot to me.

I keep mine under 30oc without much difficulty ( samsung f1's ).

Try using HDtune and see what that says, as it could be dodgy readings from speedfan.

They should be warm to the touch but not HOT... unless maybe 10k drives?

Mine are currently sat at 22 and 25oc after the pcs been on since 8am this morning.

Yeah old pc was 40 max... this poor drive is 4 years old and I think it's going to splutter soon. I am going to heavily mod my case tomorrow with fans in side + open front fan setup 1x120mm 2x90mm.

I'm lucky it's a fresh install, all my important data is on external. With HDtune it's saying 61c and warning me of critical disk temperature :/

That is rather two hot!

I got 3 hdd's pretty much sandwiched together and one drive gets upto 50c which I find too hot anyway. Where the hdd's are mounted though they get zero airflow so its not suprising

My F1 runs around 25, the WD blue runs around 30, 68 seems really hot. Have you verified it with any other progs?

that temp does seem a little high,i have 3 hardrives all in same bay,none of them go over 40 degrees

Way too hot. Speedfan is poo though, use everest or similar

agree'd anything over 35-40'c is way too hot, my mate had an external drive case once he put a new drive in it and started using it and it got very hot and died not long after

definitely need's a fan running to keep um cool you can never have too much case ventilation

heat + hdd's = bad

All my 5 drives dont get above 40c on the hottest of days.

My F1's run at around 25 - 30c

Worst drive is the WD1600JD which hits 41c :eek:

Managed to modify my airflow and got it down to 51c this morning. I'm hopefully going to mount a 120cm fan in front of it once I find a way to securely mount it.

most of my drives run at around 45-50 when im playing games etc when the ambient case is quite warm never had any problems so i would have thought 51 would be fine

i had a 200gb samsung seagate and without a fan on top would hit 60C easy. so im unsure myself why even my drive goes that high!
