hard drive back up on a external drive

hello can any one tell me that if i buy Acronis True Image 10 Home to back up my harddrive under vista using a external seagate usb hard drive would i be able to reinstall everything via the usb drive or do i need a internal ide/sata drive to make a clone

it'll backup/restore from a usb drive no problem. it will just be slower than doing it from an ide/sata drive.
