hard drive caddie problem

hi

bought one of the icy or ice box caddies, plugged the hard drive via sata and then into usb for the windows visat 32 bit machine

usb says yep recognise it

disc management says does not have a clue on the volume etc

I guess I need to format it but how

Right click disk in disk management > Initialize Disk.

but the only option was properties

nothing else

is it becuase it is a sata to usb caddie

try installing the drive internally, formatting it etc so its all working fine then move it into the caddie.
