Posted this in Windows forum the other day but problem is persisting so wondering if hardware might be at fault. History is as follows:
Post Win 10 1903 update started getting I/O error messages on my secondary (E) hard drive.
Ran Chkdsk and no issues found. Did a format but on starting to reinstall, drive would intermittently fail to pick up and come up with the I/O error/access etc.
Ordered new 1Tb drive from OCUK and fitted yesterday evening. After the usual faff getting Windows to see it, was able to start reinstalling some Steam games, partially completed.
Booting up the PC this morning, Steam refused to see what it had already done on the E drive and trying to copy a simple JPG file across from the C drive, back comes the I/O error.
New drive connected with a new SATA lead into a different socket on the motherboard.
So scratching my head now as to the actual fault and what I can do next. Obviously both hard drives are working perfectly okay, so is it a hardware fault maybe the motherboard on the way out, or does it come back to Win 10 1903 maybe not setting up properly (I've checked Device Manager and the new drive has registered correctly as "E"). Is it possible to roll back 1903, to see if the issues go away running the older version of Win 10? Of course that is only a solution until December or whenever they stop support for other than the latest version.
