Hard drive failure or other problem?

I have a 2.5inch hard drive in a usb caddy but for some reason when I plugged it in it wasnt working this time. So I removed it from the caddy and plugged it into the motherboard, but it is not picked up by the motherboard either. The drive spins up and runs because I can feel it vibrate but is it dead? Or is there another problem?

i'm guessing it might be corrupted and you need to format it again in order to work. I only say that because one day my external HDD corrupted and had to format it again in order for it work.
