Hey.

I am looking for a recommendation for software to create a backup image of a few home machines. Does not have been to be scheduled or done via a network. Just needs to be able to create a reliable image of my hard drive.

I know the main choice tends to be Ghost or Trueimage - but just wanted to know if anyone else has any suggestions of what worked well or not so well for them.

Thanks

Maybe not much help but true image 2012 works great for me. I havent tried any other software since moving from ver 9 to 2012.

+1 to Macrium Reflect.

I was so impressed with the free version, I bought the paid version. They're a UK based company too, great support.

I recently used the free version of Macrium Reflect to image my win 7 PC before I tried out win 8, and using the recovery media it creates I was able to easily restore it back to win 7 as if nothing had happened.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore

MS's inbuilt imaging is a running joke and an exercise in frustration if you don't quite fit the restore criteria which you need to somehow be fluent in obscure error codes with no explanation.

Little bit involved but DRBL Live CD (using CloneZilla Server) can take an image of a drive over network or locally. It only copies data and leaves out free space if you select the correct options. I have an old P4 rig that I only power up to image my machines. Works a treat and free

~500GB imaged in about 15 minutes over gigabit LAN
