300th POST!!!
Good afternoon guys,
I have just ordered a WD 320gb Scorpio Blue and i need to get everything off my current hdd, I have got a lot of instals ie Win 7,Games e.t.c on my hdd so i dont really want to just copy files onto external then have to re install all my programs on new hdd.
So has anyone got any recommendations on what i should do, Is there any programs i can use??
Thanks Guys

win 7 has a built in image recorder thing. I don't know how good it is, but its meant to copy an image of your HDD, and allow you to stick it on another drive :)

Or Acronis does it, or Norton Ghost. There are a few, though not all are free.

I have used the windows 7 image software, So i have saved the image onto my external hdd, How do i put this onto the new hdd then when it goes in laptop its works like i never took the old one out..

Install new hdd and attach external hdd then:

1. Insert the windows 7 cd and boot from it.
2. select language options and click next
3. click repair your computer
4. Ignore the blank screen and click next
5. select "use recovery tools that can help...."
6. Select image recovery (third one down)
7. select "restore the following backup" as this will be the image on the external hdd
8. select the image backup then next and finish
9. check the box and confirm
10. wait, then reboot

job done.

Win 7 Image create thing didnt work, Encountered a problem which is quite familiar.
Can you recommend any other software i can use?
