Hard drive in caddy buzzes

When on, the hard drive in my computer makes a buzzing noise. It's not consistent, sometimes is louder, sometimes quieter and sometimes it can barely be heard, but it has been going on for some time (years). The feeling I have is it's getting worse, or at least more consistent.

It's a secondary drive so isn't running all the time.

The case I have is a Coolermaster CM-690 Dominator Case from 2010 and it has been fine all this time apart from the quick release drive holders. I'm convinced it's these causing the problem as I have had the computer open next to me and when the noise starts I could push the holder a little bit and it would stop and touching it lightly with my finger I could feel the vibration.

I'm fairly certain its not the actual hard drive as the current one was brought less than a year ago to replace the previous drive which also buzzed, turns out the old drive was probably fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix the noise? I would prefer not getting a new case, but I wouldn't rule it out.

Try and find where applying pressure stops the buzzing, then chop up and elastic band and wedge it in near a screw in that area.

I have the same buzzing/humming in my CM-690 case too. Had the case for over 5 years but this only started a few months ago, it comes and goes. It's also coming from the drive bay holding one of my HDDs and applying pressure stops the annoying sound. My only sollution right now has been to disconnect the HDD. Im going to try placing a piece of foam in the side panel so it's pressing against the drive bay slightly when closed.

Yes try a product like this to silence your HDD.

These work really well.

Or a second best option would be one of these:

google 'hdd anti vibration damper' which look a like this:

Both solutions will need a 5.25" bay to be mounted.

Hi Scythe, thanks for the advice.

I got one of those scythe HDD coolers (easy) and installed it (harder) and so far it's working perfectly, all I can hear is the faint murmur of fans.
