Hard drive issue (hanging)

Hi there, I have a 150gb RaptorX as my main hard drive and also a 500gb Samsung Spinpoint as my secondary storage drive. My issue is that when programs access the storage samsung drive the whole system hangs, sometimes causing other programs to crash (if someone messages me on msn sometimes CSS hangs/crashes for example.

I tried adjusting the power settings to one hour, but when msn accesses it for example (my raptor just has windows and games), everything stops for a few seconds and I can hear it spinning up.

How can I stop it from hanging?

System is q6600 @3.4ghz, 4gb geil black dragon ram pc6400, the hard drives as above, asus p5k premium, auzentech prelude, running vista 64 business.

It sounds like the drive might be on the way out, have you tried running any tests on it to see? Speedfan has a SMART testing tool that you can use, Samsung probably also have drive fitness tools on their website.

Hmm I found info on a dodgy vista update, KB938979 I think is the code, uninstalled that, will update with how it goes.

This seems to have fixed it, so if you're on vista and have hard drive spin up/spin down issues, check this update!
