Got a computer here that's been up and running for ages. Randomly got an error message on post which I've never seen before, didn't take a screenshot annoyingly but it was basically 'there's an error with the hard drive in port 1, backup your data or it might be lost' and only option was to continue to BIOS by pressing F1. The HDD in question wasn't the OS/booting HDD if that makes a difference.

Happened once more after a reboot, so I turned the machine off to check the SATA cable connections and now I'm getting no boot at all. Unplugged everything bar 1 stick of RAM and still nothing.

Mobo is getting power (lit up) but that's it. The mobo (Asus TUF X299) doesn't even have an onboard power switch so it could be anything from that to a dead mobo/CPU (though I have tried shorting the power switch manually).

Given the preceeding error, any thoughts on what the problem might be? I don't have a spare CPU or mobo to test anything beyond that with. Or how/what to test without spares.

Full specs:

i7-7800X 3.5GHz (Skylake X / Basin Falls) Socket LGA2066
Asus TUF X299 (2066)
Team Group Elite 64GB (8x8GB)
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080Ti 11264MB
1TB Samsung 860 EVO

TIA.

So I didn't do anthing, tried turning it on this morning and booted... *shrug*. Still got the drive error though once I'd plugged everything back in so binned that HDD and so far all seems good. No idea!
