Howdy folks,
I'm looking to figure out a near-disaster proof solution for my image and video storage. I'd be looking to have two external hard drives hooked up via USB in a mirrored RAID array. Then in the evening when I'm done I'd power off the machine, disconnect them both, and store them in seperate locations.
I know that RAID mirroring is a piece of cake in Mac OS/Disk Utility, but I have a couple of questions.
1. What happens if one of them gets damaged? Is it as simple as plugging the remaning one in, and the OS will just mount it as a single HDD? Or would something else be required?
2. Secondly, if for any reason the second HDD isn't available for working on at the time, is there an automated way in Mac OS to detect when it's "partner" has been plugged in later on and automatically start mirroring the changes?
Cheers!
