Hi,

So I've built a new system and re used some old hard drives that I had laying around. Spec are:

i5 3570k
MSI Z77 GD-65
Samsung 830 128gb
Seagate 7200.7 200Gb Sata I
WD 320Gb Sata II (probably)

Now the hard drive Im having problems with is the seagate . Ill admit its a 7 year old drive but has worked flawlessly as my OS drive for those 7 years. The problem Im having is that it wont get detected by the OS/mobo but it happens randomly. I'll start up notice that its 'missing' restart and problems solved. I was wondering what could be causing this problem clearly its not a problem with the hard drive since a-) has been working for 7 years and b-) it eventually is detected by the system. So I feel like its the motherboard or even the controller that may be causing the problems.

So the Samsung and the WD are connected to the 6Gb ports on the motherboard with the Seagate being connected to the next available port that is also controlled by the z77 chipset. So if it was the controller I would assume that I would have similar problems with the other hard drives.

All the drivers for the mobo are installed and are up to date. Its a rather annoying problem since all my programs are installed on that drive.

The seagate was divided into two partitions when I was using it previously. After I installed everything i formatted it in Windows and merged the two partitions together giving me on big one. Im not sure if this contributed to the problem (it started happening after this) but I thought I should add it.

I should also note that I used the same sata cables that i was using on my old pc which worked fine. Im not sure if that may be a problem. Again like I mentioned all of this worked fine on my old pc.

Thanks for the help
