Hi,

As in the title, but the disk's show up in the bios and in device manager. I have 5 drives and only 3 are showing up in windows 8.

120gb ssd ok
2tb hdd ok
3tb hdd ok
4tb hdd not showing in disk management
8tb hdd not showing in disk management

The only brand new drive is the 8tb drive and all are now in a fresh install of windows 8 on an old x48 motherboard.

Any ideas greatly appreciated after two days i'm about to give up:mad::mad::mad::mad:

What motherboard is it? Are all the ports enabled with drivers installed for them?

Tried the drives on known working ports and cables?

I'm using my old lanparty dfk x48, the drives not showing are both seagate drives, I'll double check again by swopping cables over.

I was using the board previously as a media server with 10 drives and was upgrading to larger drives so decided on a clean install with a spare ssd I had lying around.

Double check all power connections. On the hard drive end and the PSU end (assuming you have a modular PSU)

It will be due to the size of the drive, not all MB's can support large HD's. Check your documentation but I would at least make sure you have the latest BIOS for the MB.

edit: just had a quick look and that's an old MB so will definitely be down to drive size.

That's not good, I was beginning to wonder that this morning, maybe it's time to upgrade the old girl.

Help......,

New Mobo, cpu, and still I can't get these 2 drives to work, both the seagate 4tb, removed working from the old server pc and the new 8tb hdd will not work in windows 8.
My SSD and 3tb drive both work fine in the build.

The 4tb drive shows up in the bios and device manager but doesn't show in disk management.
The 8tb drive doesn't show up in the bios but shows up in device manager, but only shows in disk management as a 3.6gb drive which needs to be initialised except when I select this option it comes up with an I/O error.

Any ideas greatly appreciated as thought the new build with uefi bios would solve the inability to access the bigger drives.
