So i have been running W7 build 7100 for a month or two, I found out about the bug with the autohide taskbar where it would not resume/respond after monitor shutdown (Everything is still running but, No mouse actions, Only solution is a hard reset) I have been leaving the mouse over the 'start' button to prevent this.

Well, i fell asleep during the football, Woke to find it had froze on me, Hard reset and after the windows logo, I got a very quick BSOD.

I prepared to re-install (Newer build) tonight but, Now it seems there is a hardware problem.

My DVD drive would not fully boot into bootable discs (Knoppix, Spinrite, Windows...) So, I thought it had went, Connected a working DVD drive and now it seems the hardware problem is still there but, It seems my hard drives show up in the BIOS correctly and when trying to install windows or run spinrite they give me errors.

My main HDD is a Samsung spinpoint F1 320GB (Primary boot drive, No partitions)

Second HDD is a Seagate 7200 500GB (Storage drive only)

BOTH these drives are giving errors!!

Surely they cant both be buggered ?

Could it be a SATA (Controller) issue ?

The POST screen it does say 'No HD detected' but, In the BIOS screen both are correctly identified!!

Has anyone any idea where to start ?

Thanks.

EDIT: CPU is running at stock frequency.

It could be a memory issue if you're not getting any smart warnings, especially if it's happening with two drives.

I would suggest downloading the ultimate boot disk and running the memtest86+ off it for an hour or so (give it time to do a full series of tests), as what you're describing sounds a bit similar to what happened to me on my current build when I was using some slightly faulty memory.

Ok, i done a quick test with windows memory thing ( I know its not memtest) it passed apparently.

I just ran Knoppix with the new DVD drive, I can browse both discs with file manager!!

So, It seems my drives are ok, Is it a motherboard problem ??

I just dont know where the problem lies now.

BTW: The DVD drive i had issues with was IDE, This one that works fine is SATA.

This is confusing
