i have a major issue with my hd and not sure how to fix it,

right 2 days ago i started to reformat my computer using vista oem 64bit dvd, i later realised after everything that i tryed to get it work that it must be just broken somehow (the disk that is) so i dug out my xp pro disk which worked fine, then the probs started i managed to install it on my hd but its is saying that it is only a 30 gig hd which its is infact an 80 gig hd, i have tryed to format it - it wont, i have tryed the fdisk command which it says it isnt a command and ive also checked the partition in disk management so can somone please tell me what i should do to sort it as ime goin mad not nowing how to sort it.

Find the disc checker from the hdd manufacturer and try running that on the hdd. A similar thing happened to my mates hdd when it said the size was 7GB when it was actually 500GB, turned out the disc was broken so got it rma'd

It could be that the XP Pro disk thinks it is partitioned.

Try using a boot disk and erasing all partitions etc... backing up data first
