Hard drive recommendations

Hi,
I've had a search online and on here but nothing has been of major use. Im looking for a hard drive to backup my macbook pro. I had a look on review sites but wondering do people have any first hand recommendations to add.

Im looking to ideally spend less than 100£, I would love to get a Time capsule but it is too expensive for my needs right now. I would be after a capacity of at least 1TB and usb 3, wireless would be nice but not pushed.

So what do people use? I was to make sure what I get will be fast, quiet and most importantly reliable. I don't want to loose my files in a year or so due to a malfunction with the drive.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, I did have a look but nothing has given me an answer. Any links or useful info would be great. Heading to the airport on Wednesday and was hoping that I could get something there a little cheaper, or better spec for the same money.

Anyway thanks,

Mark

I bought a 4Gb WD MyBook USB3 interface a month or so ago for £114, just for reference in your search.

-edit it is virtually silent in action, goes into sleep mode if you disconnect the USB cable

If new-ish Macbook Pro with USB3 I'd say D3 Stations from Samsung are unbeatable at the moment, solid build with 95 quid price tag for 4Tb and 75 quid for 3TB...

Thanks for the reply, Ill have a look into them.

I should have mentioned above that I'm not sure about whether or not I want a portable HDD. Any benefit of one over the other, other that portability and from what I have saw, desktop versions are a little cheaper?

Edit- and yes, its a late 2013 MBP 15' with the 500gb SSD and 16gb ram

Any more recommendations to ad? If not I'll prob go with the WD device mentioned above..

Also where do people recommend for the best deals? Amazon?

I have two 2TB WD Passports, both copy each other as I like a backup of a backup. Fast USB3 drives for Time Machine. You can pick them up for under 70 quid. I prefer the portables as they are small and only require one usb cable and no power.

Hard drives are sold by OcUK so be aware that it's against the forum rules to suggest any supplier other than OcUK.

Sorry forgot about that rule on here

Yeah I have had a look at the portable drives from WD too, portable might be the safest option as I may required portability in the future
