Hello All,

Recently I've been hearing the sound of my hard drive spinning up/down continuosly and it's really starting to bug me. This only happens in Vista not XP as I do not experience the same problem on my XP install on the same computer. I've had a look in the power management settings to make sure that the hard-drives don't turn off after a certain period of time but this has had no effect. I'm just wondering if this is a common issue with Vista, if I should be worried and what can I do to fix it.

There are three WD 320GB hard-drives in the computer, two of which are in RAID 0 configuration and all are plugged into a Gigabyte DS3 motherboard.

It is weird, I have changed the power settings too on Vista x64 yet my secondary hard drive still spins down, I'm also running a Gigabyte DS3 although I haven't tried any other so I don't know if it's relevant. I wouldn't mind it spinning down but it's the fact that it spins up everytime I open a "browse" dialog and causes a few second delay, same goes for optical drives, would be nice to have the option of them only spinning up when you click on them because most of the time I only want to use the disk that is currently spinning.
