Hard drive woes

Hi there

I left my pc running as I went to the shop. When I came back it had a black screen with the message, " please select proper boot device or insert boot media. I figured my boot drive had died. When I went to the boot menu it didn't show up. The other storage hard drive was there. After messing with a few leads and trying another hard drive with an OS on it. There are now no hard drives showing up in the bios. Anyone have any ideas?

My spec is

Asrock Z68
I5 2500k
8gig ram
120 gig ssd corsair
1000 gig wd hdd

My first suggestion is to clear the CMOS, theres a button on the rear of the board by the sockets.

Thanks, I've done that and it now detects all my drives apart from the Ssd. I've put I spare drive in with and OS on it and booted into windows. My case has the hot swap thing on the top, but even when I plug the drive in there it still doesn't detect in windows. Do you think the drive might have died? It's only like 4 months old or something. Is the any other way to tell? I don't have anther computer handy atm. Also not sure if it's important but the drive makes no noise, I'm not sure if it should being an ssd

well a SSD is silent and has no moving parts.

If you have tried connecting it directly by a SATA cable into a port on the board that you know works and a SATA power connector directly of the psu, then it must be dead?

Are all the SATA ports enabled in the BIOS? try switching between ide and ahci in the BIOS options?

When in windows, goto control panel, admin tools and disk management, can you see it there?

Sorry I didn't get back too you past night had to rush to work. It's not showing up in disk management ethier.

I tired it in all the sata ports which I know are working because the the other two hard drives work when plugged into them.

Also tired switching between IDE and achi, no joy

There's a wee tech shop down the road from me I think I'll take it down there and ask them just to plug it it see if it works.

It's starting to look like its dead tho.
