I keep getting That Paramater is Incorrect from Virtual Disk Manager.

It does this to all letters it changes to, I,J,H,Z, all still fail. I changed the letter of the previous D drive to J or something but can't change the current 3tb drive to D.

You should be able to change drive letters from Computer Management by right clicking on My Computer and selecting Manage.

Is this how you're trying to do it ?

Yes.

Instead of opening it that way I just open start menu then type DISK MANAGEMENT and then the same screen appears w/out left panel though

also the problem is drive specific i can change other drives fine

3tb seagate barrucuda

gigabyte ud4h

no secondary partition. i need to change it to the letter D because my RAID array was D, so I bought a 3tb drive and renamed it the same as the RAID array, pasted all things from raid to the new 3tb drive and disabled RAID. I need to change the drive letter so all of the games etc still think I am using Raid array.

also disabled raid and switched to AHCI, causing me to format my old RAID drives

I had this, its to do with windows having a cache on the disk your trying to change, you need to tell windows not to use that disk , reboot and then its fine.

I'm at work right now so can't tell you exactly how to do if i remember correctly its in advanced windows settings.

Absolute ****ing genius! :)

Yes I was brainstorming ideas of what windows could have linked with the previous D drive...

however I don't think this will work because all of my cache is set to NONE apart from the new 3tb drive (E). I'm going to restart to disable this and edit in the near future.

I mean I set some scratch disks etc there on the adobe programs to my previous D array... is there anyway I can boot into safe mode and change it on there or something? Could it be perhaps adobe or some other program trying to direct it towards the D drive?

If so what is the hot key for safe mode again, is it F8 or tab?

EDIT: Thank you genius! It wouldn't let me change any letter on that drive because dumb ol' Windows created a page file on it. Also I have 16b so how big of a page file should I create on the 3TB drive (and can I hide it in a folder called Page File)

Glad you've sorted it. I know I spent ages sorting it out, stupid windows error message thats of no help at all!
Exactly the same situation for me as I swapped a old 1tb drive for a new 3tb.

No idea what size you should set, I just let windows sort it out personally.

Hmm, thanks pal. I always set it to system managed, just thought some nerd on the OcUK forums might know some sort of optimized magical number for the page file.

Any how... what shall I do with 2x160gb hard drives?....

If possible I want to sell them & buy another 3tb drive to use as maybe more of a movie area or storage... not sure if its even possible to sell 5 year old drives.
