in 3 weeks 3 hard drives have failed, all do the same folders get there names changed to zzzzzzz when i tried to remove them with tune up shredder or the recycle bin, i do a format that takes between 7 and 17is attempts before it works then after that they sound like a clock and slow the pc right done and then show or dont show in my computer, sometimes they disapear right infront of my eyes.

So could this be due to the psu power surging or a virus ?

it happened to a mate of mine it was his psu which was the same make as mine an ezcool

Any help would be more than welcomed

Have you overclocked? If so maybe worth checking that the PCI bus is not more than 33Mhz. Some boards don't lock the PCI bus when increasing the FSB and anything over 34Mhz can cause strange behaviour.

new psu would help them ezcool are terrible, i had a 120gb ide drive do the same because of one

First off the caps won't help you get an answer any quicker ;)

If your friend had exactly the same PSU and exactly the same problem then it's a no brainer.

PSUs aside it does sound like a virus though. What virus guard are you using?

What hard drive models were you using, and can you post a full spec of the PC? Do any other components have problems?

first drive was a 80Gb samsung spinpoint, second a maxtor diamondmax @160GB, last was a western digital caviar 160Gb all sata drives

mobo is a Abit ip35-e
cpu e6300 @3100
2Gb geil memory800 @ 860
gfx card 8800gts
