Sorry about the awful title joke (if it even made sense... bet it didn't :S) I'm in the market for a PC upgrade for around £300. I already have the following components i'm planning on using:
Graphics card: Radeon x1800xt
Hard Drive: Some 200gig maxtor jobby, SATA but about 3 years old
and i'm looking to buy a motherboard, CPU, Case, PSU and Ram.
Currently i'm looking at 2 possible setups, both have the q6600 95w edition as the CPU but all the other choices are flexable.
setup 1)
cpu + graphics + Harddrive: as stated
Barebones: PSU + motherboard + Case
Asus Vintage V3-P5G33 Barebones System
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ebones System - Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad (LGA775)
Ram:
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ame=Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)
total cost: around 300
setup 2)
cpu + graphics card + harddrive: as stated
Motherboard:
Abit IP35 Pro XE Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-143-AB
Ram:
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-067-GL
Case:
Antec Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-101-AN
PSU:
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 450W
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...wer Pro 450W ATX2.2 Modular SLi Compliant PSU
OR
Corsair VX 450W ATX
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...4&name=Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU (CMPSU-450VXUK
Between £350 - £400
My problem is I've set my heart on quad core but worried about skimping in other places. I have no immediate plans for overclocking but theres a small chance i may eventually.
I was also hoping to buy a second x1800xt master card for cheap for some crossfire action, but looking around the internet there impossible to get ahold of so i don't think that will be happening.
I was also looking for something reasonably quiet, although quiet to me means less then an aircraft taking off (e.g. my old pc)
any advice on... well anything... is appreciated. a small case would also be nice but honestly, a bit of power, not extremely noisy and works is what i'm looking for most.
Thanks a lot
