Hard wiring question.

After upgrading to infinity I have decided to ditch my powerline and try to run cable. Now I have the master socket downstairs and 4 extension points wired in from build which if I plug my router into them give me the same stability and speed as the master socket.

Sadly my bedroom/study with my desktop doesn't have an extension socket and that's where I want the router, but the spare room does. I have a filter in the spare room socket and currently the router is in there, it would be quite simple to now run cable in the stud walling into the loft and back down into my study.

My main question is do I just buy the cable that goes from the filter to the hub, the telephone wire looking stuff? Otherwise the hub has to stay in the spare room and I would have to run one ethernet cable which would then go to my pc and not all the other devices which would benefit from a wired connection.

Is this ok or is there a better way?

Yeah I feared that would be the case, which would mean I gained little. As my router would be in the spare room, one ethernet cable would run into the loft and back down to my pc leaving all other devices (consoles etc) on wireless.

Thanks, is there any disadvantage to using a switch?

So running the ethernet cable from the telephone extension port....

Filter would be plugged into socket. Then from the socket to the hub is black flat cable. So how do I run ethernet cable from that filter to another room? Can you buy ethernet cable with the smaller connector to go into the filter adsl socket and then to the back of the hub, instead of the flat phone wire that it currently uses?

Because if possible I'd rather have the router out of the spare room as I would then get better wifi coverage through the other parts of the house. If I have to leave it in there and run the ethernet out the hub, then so be it.

Ideally you want the router connected to the master socket, but you don't have to do this..

Thanks, I get the same speed on the extension as the master, even with the extensions disconnected. So there is no way then to come from the filter to the hub to enable me to move the hub rooms.

If not I might just put the hub on the master socket downstairs to give me even coverage of wifi and run the ethernet externally to my house and back into my study upstairs and a switch.
