Took the plunge and bought a UFO, pricey I know but its something I've been after for a while now.

My system as it stands is sitting on a box so another few weeks wont do any harm.

System will include;
  • Asus Maximus Formula SE
  • Q6600 G0 @ 3825
  • Tuniq Tower 120
  • 4x1GB Geil ULL 6400
  • 8800GTX OC2
  • 80GB Werstern Digital x1
  • Seagate 250GB 7200.10 x2
  • OCZ 780w ModXstream
  • Pioneer 112-BK
  • SoundGraph iMon Ultra
  • Zalman MFC-1 Plus x2
In the next few weeks, waiting for the case to arrive I will be;
  1. Lapping the Tuniq
  2. Buying the rest of the kit
  3. Putting everything together
Items I still need to purhase include;
  1. Fan Controllers (Zalman MFC-1 Plus)
  2. Black 120mm Fan Grills (Purchased but awaiting delivery)
  3. Soundgraph iMon Ultra
The iMon, if no-one has seen one, looks very swanky http://www.soundgraph.com/Eng_/Products/imon26.aspx?topMenu=2&subMenu=1&leftMenu=26

I wil be including pics of the case, hardware and the build process itself.

For the meantime, watch this space. :D

do i sense sarcasim? lol

yea lots of pics will be included, but not tonight unfortunatly, still have to get them of the camera.

ive started lapping the tuniq tonight, started with 180 and worked up to 400. i have nothing finer atm, i used olive oil for the last 2 goes. i will be getting 600, 800, 1000 and 1200 tomorrow so it will be uber shiny by the time ive finished.

is 1200 fine enough or should i go for 1600???

I assume you will be watercooling eventually? Surely a MM case is just massive overkill without some serious cooling?

first person to question the cooling method.

at a later date yes ill be watercooling but not just yet, money doesnt allow for WC just yet. ive a payrise soon but ill be getting the hardware together, well the rest of it.

ive also a small home server in the midst of things too but all i need is **** loads of storage really, maybe a couple of 500 gig drives

im in the middle of making my own site, just need to pay for the hosting so all my build progress will be posted there sooner that later

Looking forward to this:)

The good thing about a UFO is that you wont need to change the case to fit anything. Sure it is overkill for aircooling but it certainly beats buying an case for aircooling then selling it when you realise it aint big enough for watercooling.

UPDATE 31-01-08

finally finished lapping the tuniq last night, not happy by the way, its completly flat, checked with the edge of a steel rule

not happy because, 1 my camera has decided to play up for some reason and 2 the temps are pretty much the same as before, still low - 40-41-42-42 idle at 3825mhz

not sure i want to lap the quad though, after some long hard thinking and the fact that i will void my warrenty has lead to a no go. i know that if i lap it i will have two flat surfaces which will give lower temps, thats the only positive thing about it

UPDATE 10-02-08

quick update, made a phonecall to the case supplier, should be here next week, if not - monday

having trouble finding a online store that has the iMon Ultrabay in stock is proving hard so that will be making a late appearence, OcUK dont have them on their site no more :eek: :mad:

cooling is going to change, fans are staying the same but the CPU and GPU coolers will be changing to Thermalright's - Ultra Extreme for the CPU and the HR-03 and HR-11 for the GPU, i am going to try the GPU passive to see how it goes, temp wise, toying with the idea of a 120mm delta for the Ultra and go for the 4gig mark - im at 3.825 so its not that far to go

Ram MAY be changing to 2x2 GB but im not sure what kit to go for, if it goes ahead the Geil will be going into Project Servalan

Three days of lapping :eek:

Go on lapp the top off the quad, you know you want to and unless you kill it with volts it's hardly likely to go faulty, is it?
