Just trying to decide on which is best, I can see pro's and cons for both. I only need something to carry the guitar to and from lessons rather than Gigs, so I can see the benefits of the ease and lightness of a gigbag, but obviously a hardcase would give more protection.

So what do you use to carry your guitar? Hardcase or Gig Bag and why? And which make would you reccomend?

Hardcase... much better all round and you can buy some pretty light but strong ones these days.. To some extent it depends on the guitar as well..I wouldn't ever risk carrying a Flying V, Explorer or Firebird around in a gig bag..

Just for going to practise, I stick my Jackson in a heavily-padded gig bag as it has pockets for picks/cash/tab sheets etc:

Hard cases for the overall win, though..

GIG BAG!

those ritter bags are awesomely padded.

how are you getting to and from the lessons?

i only have a hardcase for my ibanez, and it really sucks!
it may seem light at first, but after about a mile with it you really notice the weight :(

i'm in the process of blagging an ACM ritter bag, i'll be using that to take my guitar to places where i dont need to pack it in a car tight with other equipment.

For packing into a car/cab/van with an amp, pedal board, mic stands etc. i use my hardcase... for just walking to a friends house, or to the store to try amps i just wear it with a strap because the case gets heavy quickly.. and this is a £1,200 guitar.
