With the generally high end spec of this machine it does seem strange that MSI have decided to fit hard drives in it rather than SSDs.

HI there

Thing is though SSD's are now so cheap, you could easily buy an SSD and put it in as the boot drive and still have a storage 750GB HDD. :)

Thats true enough but wouldn't the majority of people who buy a system like this do that, and so it makes sense for msi to do it themselves? Unless the argument is that people will have brand loyalty and only go for intel / ocz / crucial / whomever and should be given that choice themselves, in which case it makes sense to me to just leave one of the bays empty?

EDIT: Nice laptop though, if i had the money and need... :D

If MSI installed an SSD, they would charge a hefty premium I suspect. And you would lose the large capacity mechanical drive.

Yeah but how many people do you know who pay £1.5k on a system and are preoccupied about hdd space rather than ssd speed?

Personally i'd say 750GB + ssd is PLENTY, but then i'm not an absolute horder of video files / music soo...

Thing is, at £1599.99 it should come with at least a 120GB SSD boot drive as standard, as well as a decently sized HD for storage.

Considering the gaming pace the price is also too high (although this isn't so much OCUK but MSI themselves). At this price I would expect no less than a HD7970m.

I dont understand why the dont use a better graphics card and downgrade the CPU to an i5 since i7 wont make any difference in a gaming laptop.
