Harddrives, what's wrong?

Over Here!
Hi,

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the 'harddrives' section or whether to stick it in here, as it's harddrive specific, but the 'harddrives' section seems to be for questions relating to new drives. Or is that just the way I'm interpreting it!?

Anyway, in my system I have several harddrives. I've also started to get some lengthy pauses after I reboot as the 'idel processes' in 'Task Manager' hit 100%. Looking at eventvwr I see the information from the 2 pictures below:

Can anyone tell me to what the 'Device\Harddisk0\D' relates? Is it as I suspect one of the harddrives, or is it my dvdr ? I ask as 'disk 0' relates according to computer management to my 'c:\' but it also states it's 'healthy' something that seagate tools says is true. But yet I am unable to burn dvdrs with my Pioneer dvdr burner though it seems to burn 2 or 3 dvdrs and then suddenly stop working requireing a reboot to get it to work again.

I'm confused.... help!

Start by checking the cables to the drives, then go get the drive manufacturer's own diagnostics program from their site and run that.

Hi guys, thanks I've done both of those. I ran seagates own harddrive tools on the drives then updated the Asus A8N-SLI-Deluxe chipset drivers, this problem has been going on for around 2 months. I had hoped that by replacing all the cables inside the system that it would have solved it, but it didn't.

It's only just started this reboot then 'idle processes' hit 100% thing however, over the last 2 weeks. I've even purposefully not installed any windows updates in a bid to eliminate any problems they may cause. But it's still doing it, has anyone any other ideas?

Is the CPU load going to 100% but it's all being used by things other than apps and services?

Sounds very similar to an issue I had with my old A8N32-SLI. What version of the chipset drivers did you upgrade to? I stuck on, I think, v6.86 or might have been v6.88 from the NVidia site and started getting similar CPU symptoms. Reverted to whatever the latest was from Asus (0.02 less than NVidia) and everything was fine again.

Yes it seems to be sometimes it uses the pagefile as that increases to 52% but mostly it's just the idle processes that takes up everything. Even if I start and just have zonealarm, avg running and leave the system alone. It still hits 100%.

Ah that sounds like some good news, you couldn't provide a url to those drivers could you as I find the asus site s-l-o-w I have been looking at half of it now for the last 10 minutes, it's slowly loading... I think!?

Thanks.

It just occured to me, I have a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CC-026-AD in my case. I had to install a ASPI file that I donwloaded from the adaptec website in order to get it to work properly. With this in mind, and the atapi errors errors I'm receving. I googled, and came back with a problem relating to ASPI, so downloaded AspiCheck, it says my Aspi layer has a problem, as the square on the left side of the program is red.

As I am effectively fumbling around here, has anyone any advice on this subject. Is it the Aspi thing, or is it the Atapi thing I should be focusing on. As I cannot load the Asus website, I've swapped proxies to no avail and thing still refuses to load more than half way. Rather strangely, it worked last week whilst my mate was trying to sort this problem out for me, as he says he downloaded various updates to my motherboard, one of which I assume was the chipset drivers.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? As my main drive keeps slowing down, my idle processes keep hitting 99% and it's getting a bit tedious now :(

Thanks.
